The Phryne Fisher series by Kerry Greenwood has got me hooked. I am disgressing from youth fiction to this great fun series by this australian lawyer turned author. Phryne Fisher is a very modern woman in Melbourne in the 1920's , who has set herself up as a detective. There are about 20 books in the series

Cocaine Blues
by Kerry Greenwood

This first book of the series introduces us to a very determnined, beautiful and resourceful young woman. Living in Melbourne in the 20's and being a girl who knows her own mind, this is a delightful insight into a bygone era. All of Kerry Greenwood's books have colourful characters, clothes and food.. Makes me want to live in Melbourne.

OTher books also available:

I just love the cover designs. I must admit that this is what attracted me to this series in the first place.

For the inquisitive: adult and children alike

The Wright 3 by Blue Baillett

i haven't even finished this book yet, but as i loved the previous Baillett book, Chasing Vermeer, I find myself drawn to this. The images are great , and if you can, take the dust jacket off. Mystery, architecture, friendship.

What I am listening to?Yes I have been listening to folk music as the Braidwood Folk CLub gears itself for another festival in November. However i have been listening to Jack Johnson singing "lullabies" from the movie Curious George

I had never heard of this series of books, which date back to the 50's. And the songs aren't really lullabies in the exact meaning of that word; they're more like light hearted and meaningful songs, that max and I can sing on our way to school or to Canberra. Currently available from the BRaidwood Library.
