The duo The Stiff Gins played to a packed audience at the Anglican Church Hall last month. They will be back in BRaidwood for next year's Two Fires Festival in late March.
We are fortunate that the folk club works tirelessly to bring us music. In August, we see the return of Paul Wookey. He has been a distinctive singer and songwriter since he first discovered the music of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan and was inspired to pick up a guitar and emulate his heroes. Over many years he has honed these skills and toured extensively throughout Australia with occasional international forays. A regular performer at numerous folk and country music festivals, he won the prestigious Best New Artist Award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 1981 in recognition of the quality of his first album, "Mountain Breakfast" distributed through EMI. Paul's music is not easy to classify, sitting somewhere between folk, blues and country music with a more or less even distribution of Irish, American and Australian influences. Come hear him for yourself on Thursday 24th August, doors open at 7pm for a starting show at 7.30pm In September we get to experience Soursob Bob. He's a political and life satirist songwriter from South Australia, who was quite successful at last year's Music at the Creek festival. He will make you laugh and cry, or both. Folk club is trying to raise funds by providing soup at folk nights. To help them in the cleaning up, please bring everything with you: voice, clapping, bowl, cutlery and glass for your grog. If you haven't beent o the new venue yet, the acoustics in the church hall are great, so please join them this month. |
